The Chinese city of Nanjing hosted the triathlon events of the second edition of the Youth Olympic Games at the famous Xuanwu Lake, also known as the Shining Pearl of Jinling. The action quickly lived up to the hype on day one of the Games.
Australia’s Brittany Dutton crushed the women’s field to take the tape by over half a minute from USA’s Stephanie Jenks. In contrast, the men’s race saw a thrilling sprint finish between Ben Dijkstra (GBR) and Daniel Hoy (NZL), with the Brit winning by a whisker before going on to help Europe win the Mixed Team Relay along with teammates Kristin Ranwig (GER), Emil Deleuran Hansen (DEN) and Emilie Morier (FRA).
