Kiwi youngster Aaron Barclay topped the men's triathlon with a time of 54:41, claiming the first gold medal in the Youth Olympic Games men's triathlon. Kevin McDowell (USA) took silver, while Alois Knabl (AUT) finished in third.

At the first ever edition of the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore in 2010, it was to be a triathlete winning the first Youth Olympics gold medal ever to be awarded as the swim-bike-run action got the inaugural Games underway in style at the city’s East Gold Park.
History was made by Japan’s proud podium-topper Yuka Sato, taking the tape by a full 15 seconds from Australia’s Ellie Salthouse. In the men’s race the next day, New Zealander Aaron Barclay took control on the run to seal the title ahead of future Tokyo 2020 Olympic medallist Kevin McDowell (USA). A team comprising another Olympian Alois Knabl (AUT), Fanny Beisaron (ISR), Miguel Fernandes (POR) and Eszter Dudas (HUN) won the first YOG Mixed Relay golds
